Autograph letter signed “James K Polk”. 1p., 7.75 x 9.5 inch. House of Representatives, 1827 December 8. Then congressional representative for Tennessee, Polk inquires about the pension for a veteran constituent: In full: "I am requested to present to the proper departments, the enclosed testimony, in support of the application of James L. Crawford, late a soldier in the services of the U. States, to be placed on the invalid pension roll. When his application is decided on, please advise me of it." Crawford had served as a sergeant in the Tennessee Volunteers during the Creek War, enlisting in October of 1812, and was discharged in January 1814. Mailing folds, mounting residue on the edges on verso, else good condition.
