Handsome autograph letter signed “Franklin Pierce”. 1p., 7.5 x 9.5 inch. Concord, N.H., 1845 June 30. To "Hon Wm. L. Marcy, Secy of War, Washington D.C." In full: “I have to request that a permit may be granted to me to locate a mine in the county South of Lake Superior." Mailing folds, handling wear, left margin with minor residue of mounting tape on verso and probably slightly trimmed, else good condition. William Learned Marcy (1786-1857) was an American statesman, who served as U.S. Senator, Governor of New York, U.S. Secretary of War and U.S. Secretary of State.

Tappen a day or two since who apologized for not having sent the deed of the land for which I paid him…more than 18 mos ago & said ‘I cannot describe the land, but if Mr. Blood will make out a quitclaim deed & send it to me, I will cause it to be executed’…Henry can give you the description of the land to be quitclaimed.” Mailing folds, else in fine condition.
